NACA 64-421 Airfoil

The NACA 64-421 airfoil and the circular wire above create the same drag.

A rigid wing may present less drag than the bare pole, roller furled jib and rigging wires in most sailboats.  As a wing may be up to 2.2 times as powerful as soft sails for the same area, a wing may be 1/2 the area for the same amount of drive. You may find the Web sites below helpful.
